A practical guide for returning students

What's new?

What's new?

Here's a round-up of changes you may have missed over the past few months. As the academic year progresses, you can keep updated through our webpages and social media channels.

Postal loan changes

We're no longer posting Library items internationally, and won't be refunding postage costs for items returned from outside the UK. But you can still access a wealth of electronic resources from across the world.

LibKey Nomad

LibKey Nomad is a browser extension that links to academic articles and research materials available open access or through our library subscriptions. It automatically flags any links to full-text versions of articles available to you as a member of the University.

Sensory Rooms

Our Sensory Rooms are spaces that allow you to moderate your sensory experience. We have two dedicated sensory rooms: the Sensory Study Room designed primarily for studying and the Sensory Retreat Room which is a calm space that allows you to take time out from studying.

Useful Reminders

As well as letting you know about any changes, we'd also like to remind you of some things you may have missed!

There's a range of study support and guidance available in the Library to boost your grades, help with your studies and generally make things easier.

As well as regular training sessions on a wealth of academic and digital skills, there's all the online resources here on our Subject Guides and Skills Guides.

You can also get one-to-one support:

  • Get help on literature searching and making the most of the Library and its resources by booking an appointment with the Faculty Librarians for your department — you can find their contact details on your Subject Guide.
  • The Writing Centre offers guidance on planning assignments, writing arguments, integrating sources, academic writing style, proofreading your own work and more.
  • The Maths Skills Centre offers advice and guidance on maths topics, statistical concepts and analysis, and preparing for numerical reasoning tests.
  • Our study coaching service let's you explore your current approach to academic life to help develop your study skills and strategies.
  • IT Support can help with a range of computer and software-related queries.
