Reporting Accessibility Issues

We provide guidance to lecturers and module leaders about how to make their VLE pages and content accessible. If you believe a module VLE page is not following accessibility best practise, you can use the form on this page to report it to the DET team and we will follow it up for you. The form is anonymous.

Accessibility Best Practise

There are a few key accessibility principles we expect VLE sites to follow. If your VLE site doesn't follow one or more of these, please report it using the google form below. If something not mentioned below is making the VLE site inaccessible, provide details in 'other'.

  1. Nesting only used when neccessary
  2. Appropriate file size so Blackboard Ally functions
  3. Documents uploaded directly to the VLE (not in a padlet)
  4. Alt text is used to describe pictures
  5. Module planner is uploaded as a file, not pictures, to be accessible to screen readers
  6. Consistent formatting
  7. Clear instructions and information provided

We also encourage the use of interactive tools such as mentimeter and padlet in teaching to allow all students to participate. If you have any feedback on use (or lack of use) of these tools in modules, you can provide this in the form.

Accessible VLE Example

An example of an accessible VLE page is provided below.
