Preparing for Autumn 2020

Accessing the Library buildings

A guide for academic staff to help you prepare for the Library's resources and services ahead of Autumn term 2020

Accessing the Library buildings

A woman browsing bookshelves in the LibraryWe are now starting to reopen the Library buildings, ready for the Autumn term. There will, however, be a number of changes introduced in order to follow social distancing guidelines and to ensure a safe environment for our students and staff.

Changes to our services

We have created a web page to summarise our phased approach to reopening the Library buildings and to explain some of the changes that will be in place in the short term. This includes information about the social distancing and other safety measures that we’ll have in place, as well as new services to support our students.

We will update that page as we know more about what services will be available and how this will affect the physical Library buildings.

Introducing Book Takeaway

Whilst it’s important to prioritise electronic resources at this time (see Online resources), we recognise that some resources are only available in print. We have therefore introduced our Book Takeaway service, which will allow you and your students to request books (and other physical items such as DVDs) from the Library’s printed collections.

There are four options available:

  • Scan and Send, for scans of book chapters or articles

  • Postal Loans, for free delivery of items to a chosen address

  • Collect at King's Manor, for items sent from the main Library or York Minster Library

  • Send to Morrell, for King's Manor or York Minster items sent to the main Library

As part of the service we will also be offering free postal returns.

Read our Book Takeaway webpage to find out more about how it works.
